

Richard was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 21, 1929 to Mildred Young and Richard Grossman. He served in the United States Army during the time of the Korean War where he was stationed in Berlin, Germany as part of the NATO Peace Keeping Force. While in Germany he was married to Marion Sucker. After his tour in Germany, he returned to live in Forest Hills, New York. Richard was very active in sports and was instrumental in bringing Little League baseball and Pop Warner football to Forest Hills. After many years in New York, Richard moved to Connecticut and then Arizona where he ran a very successful tour business. He joined the Elks Lodge in Apache Junction, Arizona and rose to the rank of Exalted Ruler. His devotion to the Elks and helping many charitable organizations was a true testament to his commitment to helping others. Richard retired in Arizona and lived out his days traveling between Illinois and Arizona. Richard remained active in the community until leaving to live with family in Torrance, Ca.
Richard is survived by his four children, Gary (Connie), Linda Obrien (Thomas), David (Supatra), and Maureen Nappi(John), twelve grandchildren, Danielle, Nicole, Amanda, David, Michelle, Christine, John Michael, Alex, Nicholas, Gianna, Gary, and Keila, and his great grandson Luke. He is also survived by his sisters, Carol Lu Spinrad of Vermont, and Faith St. Claire of South Carolina.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 4pm at St. Andrews Lutheran Church 2405 Crompond Road Yorktown Heights, NY 10598
