Gilliland, Robert Joseph, a 50 year resident of the South Bay, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 in Torrance. Born in Dayton, Ohio, "Gil" was 78 years old. He served in the Navy during World War II on an aircraft carrier.
He coached Little League Baseball for many years. He enjoyed boating, bowling and playing pool. He had a passion to dance, especially the California Swing with his favorite dance partner, his wife, and loved to sing Karaoke.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sandra, Daughters Gail (Patrick) Haggerty, and Anita (Tom) Bauer, Sons, Don Gilliland, and Steve (Kelly) Gilliland, Step Daughters Carol Clark, Tina (Gary) Schaffer and 9 grandchildren.
He will always be our loving Husband, "Daddy," Grandpa and will be forever in our hearts.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, October 15 from 3pm to 6pm at White & Day Colonial Mortuary, 901 Torrance Blvd. in Redondo Beach. The service will be held on Monday October 16 at 11am, also at White & Day Colonial Mortuary. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
