Scherer, Roger Kent Sr. a long time resident of the South Bay passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on Christmas Eve 12/24/08 at 11:50 pm. at home. Born in Illinois, his family moved here while he was young. Roger was 68 when he died from a long illness, which initially caused a right leg amputation. Although he has had a rough couple of years he did not see himself as ill, he stayed strong until the very end. Roger is a member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge where he has many dear friends.
Roger's favorite thing to do was fish. He loved to fish the ocean and knew where all of the big bite spots are. He also loved to fish the canals, and was able to take a trip with his son Roger Jr. just a couple of months ago, he was so excited to be able to make this trip! He also was able to make a trip to the Kern River/Lake Isabella this year with his daughter and family and son and wife. Roger was also a fan of football; he would have a game on TV and two radios all with a different game on. Poker was another game that he enjoyed and he has spent many hours with family and friends enjoying their company and even managing to win a few bucks.
Roger is survived by his wife Joann, son Roger Jr., daughter-in-law Andrea, daughter Tonya, son-in-law Mike, grandson's Anthony, Brandon, Ryan, son Danny and his sister Kay.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday January 10, 2009 at 4:00 pm at Rice Mortuary Chapel in Torrance, CA. Everyone is invited to the family & friends gathering afterwards at the Moose Lodge following the service.
