Sarah Renee Chian

Sarah Renee Chian, a long-time Hermosa Beach resident, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, September 2, 2012, after a 3½ year fight against lung cancer. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1962, Sarah grew up in Taipei, Taiwan; Campaign, Illinois; and Atlanta, Georgia. Sarah graduated from Atlanta's Lakeside High School, from Georgia Tech with a BS in Computer Science, and from USC with an MBA.

Across a wide-ranging career, Sarah worked most recently for DirecTV as an IT Project Manager. Previously, Sarah also worked for Nissan, Toyota, Cambridge Management Consulting, 20th Century Fox and Price Waterhouse. Sarah devoted her life to her family and friends, and she will long be remembered for her unique personal touch and her courage and grace. Despite her illness, Sarah continued to work and enjoy school activities, cooking, crocheting, poetry, travel, and visiting family and friends. Sarah is survived by her son Garrett; her husband Don; her parents Edward and Lucia; her three sisters Nancy (Gresham), Elta (Ratliff), and Jeanette (Brooks); and her seven nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of Sarah's life will be held on Sunday, September 9. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sarah's memory designated to Lung Cancer at the American Cancer Society via www.cancer.org.
