Stanley Arthur Taylor

Stanley Taylor, a WWII veteran of the South Pacific. who rose from a diesel mechanic on the waterfront of Seattle to an oil company executive in California, succumbed to cancer early Sunday morning at the age of 90. Stan loved the sea. From his tour in the Navy to fishing, or sailing as a member of the King Harbor Yacht Club, he took every opportunity to be on the water. Of all his passions in life, fishing was number one, whether it was catching steelhead in mid-winter streams in the Pacific Northwest or big game fishing off Baja California, he enjoyed it all. During his later years he developed an interest in building and flying radio controlled model gliders. He could be seen almost every weekend on top of the hills of Palos Verdes flying with his South Bay glider club friends.

Stan is survived by his daughter, Barbara Amaral, his son and his wife, William and Jean Taylor, his granddaughter Nicole and great granddaughter, Vivianna. Stan's wife of 63 years, Virginia, preceded him in death in 2003. Not surprisingly, Stan's wishes were to be buried at sea, which will occur in a public service on December 11, 2009. The service will begin with US Navy recognition on the dock at 9:45 am followed by boat departure at 10:00 am from King Harbor, Redondo Beach, CA.
