
Thomas Edward Gibson, 75, passed into eternal life on Sunday, October 8, 2006, at home in Redondo Beach. Tom's sudden passing was a shock to his family and friends. Tom was born on January 8, 1931, in Glendale, California, to Hugh and Eva Gibson. A graduate of Incarnation elementary school and Loyola High, Tom earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Loyola University in 1953. On May 8 of the following year, Tom married Marie Therese Ahern at Old Mission Santa Barbara. After two years as a commissioned officer in the Air Force, Tom joined the firm of Ernst and Ernst as a staff accountant. Tom and his young family moved to Redondo Beach in 1960, where he established a successful accounting practice from which he never retired. Tom was a member of St. Lawrence Martyr Parish for over forty-six years, and active in a number of professional and local business organizations. He will remain ever present in the hearts of his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Marie; children Mike, John, Jim, Patty, Paul; daughters-in-law Shawn, Jean, and Tanya; grandchildren David, Kevin, Danny, Patrick, Erin, Grace, and Jack, who brought him immeasurable joy; brother Larry; sisters-in-law Ceal and Anne; brother-in-law Charlie; and many other family members and long time friends. A vigil service will take place on Friday, October 13, at 7:00 in the evening at Rice Mortuary in Torrance. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Lawrence Martyr Church, Redondo Beach, on Saturday, October 14, at 10:00 in the morning, and will be followed by a reception at the Parish Hall. Private internment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of Tom's favorite charities, the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (www.nami.org).
