

A TIME TO BE BORN - Velma was destined for a life of strength and independence being born to teenage mother, Eula Davis, in Spanish Camp, Texas on October 22, 1923. A faithful child of God, Velma, devoted her life to sharing the love she received from Christ with all whose lives she touched as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, friend and nurse.
A TIME TO GROW UP - She was determined from the get go, beginning public school at age 5, baptized at age 9 and an active member in Rising Star Baptist Church.
A TIME TO LEARN - After graduating high school at the age of 16, Velma attended Prairie View College. While her family wanted her to go into education, she was intent on a career in nursing, where she excelled. She served at Los Angeles General Hospital and United States Public Health Services as a cadet nurse during World WAR II. She graduated with her Registered Nursing bachelor's degree and masters from Pepperdine University. She dedicated 27 years to the County of Los Angeles and retired as head nurse of the medical examining department.
A TIME TO LIVE LIFE - Velma was charmed by the charisma of Adolphus Brown whom she married for 46 years of bliss (and a few bumps), they raised two children Adrienne and Korla. Velma was known for her extensive travel to over 50 countries as an inquisitive tourist and seeker of professional development. Moreover, she was committed to service with various organizations including the Cancer Society, Red Cross, United Way and others.
A TIME TO SERVE - Velma converted to the Lutheran faith in 1960 and served as a member of community Lutheran Church for 40 years. She served as President of the Council of Women's group before moving to Las Vegas in 1999. During the 10+ years she resided in Las Vegas, she was an active member of Lakes Lutheran Church.
