Carl E. Dreves

Carl Edward Dreves, age 84, of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at Grand Traverse Pavilions with his family by his side. Carl was born November 8, 1931 in Traverse City to Carl Anthony and Margretta (Snyder) Dreves. He graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1951 and went on to attend one semester at Michigan State Agricultural College before he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War, where he received a Bronze Service Star, among other honors. When he returned home from the war, he finished his degree at Michigan State. On May 4, 1957, in Traverse City, Carl married the late Lorraine Sue Harvey and together they raised 7 children. He worked for Cole Brothers as a mechanic for over 10 years and then for Traverse City Area Public Schools as a bus driver for just shy of 20 years. During this time, Carl also started a farm, raising beef cattle and growing cherries. The farm and family were his life.

Carl will be greatly missed by his seven children: Greg (Ella) Dreves, Ann VanDyke, Douglas Dreves, Bruce (Allys) Dreves, Lorie Robb, Sally Dreves, and John (Heather) Dreves; grandchildren Jennifer (Brent), Brian, David (Emily), Jeff (Lauren), Scott, Paul, Lamar, Lena Lila, Lavern, LuAnne, Lanita, Grant, Jack, McKenzie and McKayla; Great grandfather of four. He is also survived by his sister Barb Harty, brother Fred (Julie) Dreves, brother-in-law Roger Round and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine, sister Dorothy Round, brother-in-law Charles Harty, and son-in law Rob VanDyke.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 10:30 am with visitation one hour prior at the Sojourn Church, 1027 McCrae Hill Road, Traverse City.
