Donald Hansen

Donald R. Hansen, age 83, of Traverse City passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Munson Hospice House surrounded by his family. He was born February 2, 1931 in Clare to Arthur and Mildred Mae (Batzer) Hansen. He graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1949. After High School, Don enlisted in the US Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was stationed mainly in Louisiana, but also spent some time in England.

Upon his discharge from the military, Don attended U of M for Electrical Engineering under the G.I. bill. On March 29, 1958 Don married Yvonne L. Smith in Holland, MI. Together they raised 2 sons.

Don worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He was a member of the Eagles and the American Legion. He also spent many years on a bowling league. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, and driving the pontoon around Long Lake.

Don will be greatly missed by his wife Yvonne; sons: Andrew Hansen of Traverse City and Eugene (Patty) Hansen of Traverse City; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brother: Arthur (Joanie) Hansen of Traverse City and Sister-in-law Rita Hansen.

Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brothers Bernard and James Hansen.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 21, 2014 at 2 pm at the Hammond Place Club House.
