Elton Dunn. Beloved husband, father, son, and "papa" went on to a better place on May 23, 2011. He was 85 years old and is survived by his precious wife, Betty June (Mansfield) of 65 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; Roy and Luna Dunn, his beloved sister; Jerlene, his cherished son; Douglas Lee Dunn, and a treasued grandson; Joel Wayne Parrish. His legacy includes his son; George Dunn, daughter Marsha Parrish, and son Randy Dunn. He leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren to carry on.
During his high school years Elton enjoyed math, drama, speech, singing, and guitar. After his graduation from Hazel Park High School in 1942 he was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served as a radio operator in the 13th Airborn Division and later in the 82 Airborn Division.
Elton had several jobs throughout his lifetime. Most included bookkeeping and accounting duties. He served in the ministry for the Ferndale Church of Christ including 2 years spent planting a church in Big Rapids, Michigan. Upon his passing he was a member of the Traverse City Church of Christ where he developed many friendships. Elton quietly and unselfishly gave to others whenever he became aware of needs.
Elton had many loves including magic, auctioneering, gardening, books, pinochle, poetry, country music...and Betty. Although Betty is sad to see him part she is thankful he is at peace and suffers no more. She continues her courageous fight against cancer...
A memorial service will take place this summer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City.
Scrapbooking...though just a hobby
is a labor of abiding love
as cherished photographs
are gently placed on pretty pages
and handled with kid-gloves.
A plethora of photographs
pure poetry without words
resurrecting treasured moments
throughout the ages often blurred.
Magical collections
memoirs of favorite things
diaries of days gone by
providing precious memories
with eternal wings.
A patchwork quilt of stories
stitched into a work of art
blanketing those who enter in
with warm and peaceful hearts.
Scrapbooking...no mere hobby
painting pictures of our lives
as lingering litanies of our love
give birth to fondly held archives.
