George F Overman

George F. Overman, age 95 of Traverse City, died October 4, 2010 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. He was born in Detroit, the son of Roy & Elizabeth Overman and married Marion H. Baldinger on November 7, 1947. George was a proud veteran of the US Army and a retired Detroit police officer. He was also the director of the police band. After retiring he moved his family to Traverse City in 1968 where he enjoyed repairing musical instruments and opened Overman’s Music Shop. Loving Father of: Marion (Mike) Stephens. Proud Grandfather of: Mike (Alison) Stephens, Jill (Travis) Irish, Jessica (Mike) Ketola, Gary Gatzke Jr. and Christopher Gatzke. Great Grandfather of: Corbin and Cadence Irish. Dear Brother of: Bob (Maxine) Overman and Gladys Priest, he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, his son George, daughter Martha Gatzke, and siblings Ed, Sylvia, Beryle Martin. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2010 – 11:00 a.m. at the COVELL FUNERAL HOME in Traverse City, with full military honors taking place at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will take place Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Memorial Contributions would be greatly appreciated to the Cherryland Humane Society or the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
