

TRAVERSE CITY — James Edward Cummings, 80, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010, at Munson Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born March 30, 1930, in Detroit, to James and Blanche (Peach) Cummings.
Jim was a graduate of Fordson High School in Dearborn and entered the trades as an apprentice plumber. He later became a Master Plumber, Business Agent for Local 98 in Detroit, Plumbing Inspector for the state, and then Chief of the Plumbing Division for the State of Michigan.
Jim served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1952 to 1954 with honorable discharge.
Jim then married his sweetheart, May Isherwood on April 10, 1954.
Jim is survived by his wife, May; son, Thomas (Lisa) Cummings; and grandson, Ian; daughter, Christine (Craig) Bush; and grandson, Collin; his brother, Jerry (Dee) Cummings; nephews, Randy and family, Danny and family, and Robert and Tracy Isherwood; and cousin, Barbara (Frank) Angier.
Jim was a loving husband and father. He cared for his whole family and his many friends.
His hobbies were planning many trips, attending his grandson's baseball games and concerts and making many things from wood for family and friends. Jim and family attended West Side Community Church.
A funeral will be held Monday, June 14, 2010, at noon, at the Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City, with visitation one hour prior.
Contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the Salvation Army Food Bank.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
