Margaret Mary Laine

Margaret Mary Laine, 92, of Traverse City passed away peacefully at The Villa at Traverse Point on July 18, 2019. Margaret was born on November 4, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan to Frederick and Rose Hopkins.

Margaret graduated in 1943 from Girls Catholic Central High School in Detroit, Michigan. She furthered her education at the University of Detroit. During Margaret’s career she held several secretarial positions in the insurance industry but, her most rewarding vocation was the 12 years she served as the Religious Education Director at St. Agatha Parish in Redford Township, Michigan. In addition to her position as Director, she volunteered her services for many church committees including altar care, choir, and Women’s Club.

After retiring in 1991, Margaret and her husband, Michael, moved to Traverse City to be closer to their children and grandchild. Together they enjoyed everything about Traverse City; its beauty, its beaches, and its festivals. She loved animals and had pets all her life. She was an avid reader who loved to garden and enjoyed canning, as well as playing board and card games. She especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Roseanne (Edward) Miller of Traverse City, MI; grandchildren, Steven Laine of Berkley, MI, Shawn (Katherine) Miller of Petoskey, MI, and Cailin Miller of Grand Rapids, MI.: great-grandchildren Matthew and Aidan Laine of Berkley, MI.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; and her son, Frederick.

Visitation will be at Covell Funeral Home, Traverse City, MI on Thursday, July 25, 2019, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Francis Church on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Committal service at Oakwood Cemetery. After the burial, please join the family for a reception back at the church.
