

Marie Mae Baumberger passed away April 3, 2017. She was born May 31, 1924, in Mackinac City, Michigan, to Allen and Ruth Cain. She married Noel Eugene Baumberger on December 11, 1943. They owned and operated the family centennial farm from 1957 until 1975. They remained in Northport where Marie worked at Leelanau Memorial Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) until they moved to Arizona.
She continued her caring for people in need once in Arizona, including cooking for shut ins, crocheting 109 baby afghans for the Babies in Need program, making quilts for her family and to raffle off for charities and crocheting 106 afghans for prayer blankets. She passed on her love of crafts and cooking to her family. Her love for family and friends and her caring ways will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Frederick and Janice Baumberger, Carl and Janet Baumberger, Karen Nickerson and Ann Louise and Ronald George. Ten grandchildren: Diane Bolek, Michelle Smith, Bonnie Huck, Brian Baumberger, Amanda Brown, Sterling N. Nickerson, Robin Lewis, Jackie Hayes, David George and Christine Wilson. And many great grandchildren, Ryan Bolek, Branden and Avery Smith, Autumn and Austin Huck, Tanner Brown,, Nicholas, Joe and Grace Lewis, Kristen Nickerson and Ashley Fenton, Katie, Emily, Abigail and Megan Wilson and soon to arrive, Xander Baumberger. She was preceded in death by her husband Noel E. Baumberger, infant daughter Norma Jean Baumberger, grandson Richard Carl Baumberger and son in law Sterling G Nickerson.
In lieu of flowers, donations were given to Grand Traverse Lighthouse or Munson Hospice House.
A graveside service was held Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11 am at the Leelanau Township Cemetery in Northport. A light meal was served at Trinity United Church of Christ at the conclusion of the service.
Arrangements were entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
