Billy Joe Wilson

Born in Cleveland, TN, he carried Tennessee pride throughout his life. A life-long student, Billy earned three degrees in addition to continued education through his professional associations. A tax professional by trade, his knowledge of law and tax code kept him sharp through his final years.

A stoic man who abhorred tardiness, he never missed a moment to share kindness through giving. His life philosophy was that there’s always enough to share.

A man of few words, when he spoke people listened. Billy never missed a moment to share a gentle compliment or indulge in chocolate ice cream. His earthly loves for gospel music and tomato season were second only to the love he had for his family.

Preceded in death by his parents, Nell Davis Goins and William Wilson, and his stepfather, Everett Goins. Mourning his loss are his brother, John Goins, his wife of 59 years, Mary Lee, two daughters, Karan and Lisa Wilson, and only granddaughter, Raven Wilson.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Decatur after social distancing and the threat of COVID-19 have subsided. Gifts in Billy Joe’s honor can be made to the Alert Sunday School class at First Baptist Church of Decatur.
