Clayton Dean Wood, age 87, of Tucker, GA passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022 in the loving arms of his wife of 26 years July 12th of this year. He was born May 9, 1935 in Lowell, Indiana to Nora and Guy Wood. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged in December 7, 1956. He married his high school sweetheart Ila Mae Doty on May 4, 1956. . Ila passed August 22, 1995 at which time Sarah Was her Hospice Nurse and Clay always called her his angel as she cared for Ila until her death. Clay is survived by three children from his first marriage Ron Wood, Stan Wood. Myra Owens (Trevin Owens) and his grandson Troy Wood. He is predeceased by his precious granddaughter Haley Wood, daughter of Ron and Kim Wood, who God called home at the young age of 17. He is also predeceased by his 2 brothers Wayne and Curt and his 2 sisters Pauline and Maxine along with several nieces and nephews who love him dearly. Clay’s smile lit up the room, he never met a stranger, a kind and very gentle man.
Clay found the second love of his life Sarah who was the “angel” nurse caring for Ila. I often said we were 2 lost souls that fell in love during a difficult time in both of our lives and every moment with him was a cherished and loving moment. Clay and Sarah were married July 12, 1996 at Mount Carmel Christian Church in Stone Mountain.
Clay worked most of his life in Optical sales. He was Vice President of Sales for Renauld International, LTD based in Texas. For those that do remember Sylvester Stallone, he wore his first pair of these sunglasses filming his movie “FOLLOW THAT DREAM”. His last position was with Cliff Weill Optical Sales until he became ill. He was a Hospice Volunteer which he loved, a Deacon at Mount Carmel Church, a Greeter at Smoke Rise Baptist Church and a member of Toastmasters.
Clay and Sarah were inseparable. When Clay developed mild memory loss back in 2009, Sarah was determined to care for him at home and continued to work Part time. Clay and I had several conversations. Two weeks ago before he passed I walked him to the kitchen table and gave him coffee. WOW he said. He said to me in a very lucid moment. “I’m scared. Then he said but then I feel you holding my hand and I’m not scared anymore. Please don’t leave me”.
I love you Sarah.
