Edith McPherson Doherty

passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Edith was born to Samuel and Mabel McPherson on September

11, 1919 in New York City, NY. She and her husband, the late Mr. Michael H. Doherty (“Doc”), were married

51 years. He passed away June 23, 1991. Edith was a kind and loving woman who was cherished by all who

knew her. Her talent for cooking and baking, along with her love of music, drove her greatest passion of caring

for and entertaining friends and family. Although Edie and Doc were avid travelers, with favorite locations

being Hawaii, the Adirondacks and Lake Placid, they always called Georgia home. Edith was once employed at

the Naval Air Station in Chamblee, GA, but worked for many years and retired from Fireman’s Fund Insurance.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church as well as Conway United Methodist Church. Edith is

survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Elaine M. Clifford, and her two sons, Harold J.

Doherty and wife Lynn, and Terrence R. Doherty and wife Brenda, seven grandchildren and five great

grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Edward

McPherson, her sisters, Mae M. Kempton and Labretta M. Haber, and her daughter-in-law Nancy B. Doherty.

Visitation will be 12:30pm to 2:30pm, Friday, December 31, 2010. Services will follow at 2:30pm, after

visitation, at the Floral Hills Funeral Home, 3150 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084. Interment will be

in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
