Elaine was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 6, 1950 to the late James Leland and Calvinia Wilkie Phillips. She graduated from Lakeside High School in 1968. She later attended Reinhardt College, in Waleska, Georgia before starting her career at the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Roy Linton Beavers, III, swept her off her feet and they married on October 2, 1971. Roy and Elaine enjoyed 49 years of adventure and love together. Elaine, affectionately known as Mimi, loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She is survived by her loving husband Roy, as well as her children Amy Elizabeth Long (Richard) and Amanda Beavers McKinney (Jason); her three grandchildren, Madelyn Renee Long, Isabella Grace McKinney and Hudson James McKinney; and her siblings, James Leland Phillips, Jr. (Sally) and Rita Phillips Paschal.
After residing in Decatur, Georgia for 42 years, Roy and Elaine retired to Lake Lanier. Elaine enjoyed life at the lake, as well as many adventures on the road in their Airstream, from Florida to Alaska. Whether you were a guest in her home or someone waiting in line at a store, she would always strike up a conversation. Elaine never knew a stranger. Every person in the world, to her, was just a friend she had yet to meet.
Elaine’s life will be honored at the chapel at Floral Hills Funeral Home in Tucker, Georgia on Thursday, April 15th with visitation at 2 pm followed by a service at 3 pm with Reverend Megan Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
