
Our precious mother, Elinor Ruth Dawson of Stockbridge, Georgia passed away at age 95 on December 31, 2023. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Clarence Irvin Dawson. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Ruth New (Terry), two sons, David Irvin (Diana) and Philip Alan (Mary Ellen), 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Elinor was born in Belton, South Carolina to Lucius and Ruth King. She felt the call on her life to serve as a missionary, so went to Anderson College, Carson-Newman College, and the WMU Training School to prepare to serve. While at the WMU Training School, she met her husband. Soon after their marriage, the couple traveled across the country by train to serve in Los Angeles, California as missionaries with the Home Mission Board. They continued to serve together for 40 years in California, Arizona, and Atlanta. Elinor was always an active member of her church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and week-day preschool teacher. She had a sweet, kind spirit that reached out to others. She was loved by everyone she met and will be missed terribly by her family and friends.
A memorial service, to honor our mother’s life, will be held Thursday, January 18 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Morrow. Rev. Devita Parnell officiating. Graveside service will follow at 2 PM at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Tucker, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Morrow or The Good Shepherd Clinic.
