We miss you flame , our SJC NOBILITAS 68/72 Aug meeting was full of memories either on the Soccer field or with those Aquinas House Young Boys. You left us so soon and our library of events has become so hard to manage. We have so many gentlemen now that some have forgotten many battles that we fought on behalf of our brothers. We will continue the fight Flame in our quest to raise up the giving spirit which your family are known for and of which you carry the mantle very well. Tribute for Uncle Femi Ogunniya 

We fondly called him Baba Ewe denoting wisdom. 

We met him for the first when he first returned to Nigeria and visited our older brother Aleko. 

He looked tall, he was wearing a polo top, a pair of white shorts, white stockings and Nike trainers. Fresh from the United States, we fell in love with him straightaway.

Though he was our big brother’s friend, we had access to him as a big brother.

He was so good to us, we visited him many times at his office at the travel agency  in ikeja and he would order the most delicious food and drinks for all of us.

Many of our flight tickets were purchased through the office at significantly discounted prices.

We would meet many aspiring young Nigerian footballers who traveled to europe through his generosity and connections. 

He was such a blessing to many.

We will always fondly remember him.

Earlier this year I had the great privilege of meeting Daddy. His Spirit was so pure such that I instantly felt like I was in the presence of my biological father. Though I had been contacted for a professional function for Daddy, I saw the great privilege of receiving from a man of enormous wisdom and the wealth of gracious life experiences.

 Daddy's heart was like a large mine of the rarest precious stones. The stories of His life he shared every now and then inspired me so much that it humbled me. Seeing how much God had blessed Daddy and how committed Daddy was to taking care of His loved ones and anyone who needed help. 
I will always be grateful for the gift of Daddy. I look forward to seeing Daddy on Resurrection morning. 
Daddy's legacy will live on forever. My love and prayers will always be with Daddy's beloved family.

It has been a monumental  shock to me, my wife and the entire family to learn of your passing on to Glory. 
I did not expect such news as you were very strong and vigorous  for your age. 
I use this gathering to honor an enigma.

The void you have left is one only the Spirit of God can help fill, and so I pray that His role as a comforter becomes even more real to us all,  and that the peace of God that passes understanding garrisons our minds and our hearts in Jesus Name Amen. 

I especially pray this for Aunty Bimbo, Aramide, Shalewa, Wonu and Funwa, and their spouses and children. I also pray this for all the Ogunniya family, and all your friends loved ones. 

I love you Uncle Femi. Although we wish it could have been delayed, I take solace as a believer knowing that you are resting from your labours, and have now entered into the TRUE rest of the Lord.

My dear Uncle Femi

When I got the news, after the initial shock, and the hurt and crying that followed, my instinctive reaction was to go over all the old photo albums at home, because I just wanted to go back in time in some way. Those photo albums revived archived memories, some of which I will share. 

You were my introduction to all things sports, particularly American sports. You owned your own style. One could have set up a shop with the size of your sneaker and baseball cap collection! 

Our last conversation was about the NFL and your thoughts on how this season would shape up. Well it’s early days yet, but I think your predictions about the Philadelphia Eagles will play out. 

My fondest memories of you are simple. All of us children (my siblings and my cousins) gathered together on your giant bed, taking up all the space, climbing all over you, playing all over you, watching TV with you, or should I say disturbing you as you watched TV!

I was always afraid of our dogs and your dogs, but you seemed to be the only person they feared and listened to. It always made me think “wow Uncle Femi is just the man!” 
In fact you were somewhat of a dog whisperer because you seemed to know just what to do to calm them down long enough for us to run into the house! 

Uncle you left nothing on the table. You gave it your all and always did your very best, and it reflects in each of your children. You imprinted your gentle yet strong nature on the inside of them, and on the outside of them, you imprinted your face! It’s like looking at you whenever I see them. The resemblance they each bear to you, both inside and out, are the pieces of you we still have with us, reminding us that your legacy and essence live on.

 It's hard to speak of you in the past tense, and very difficult to process your sudden departure. 
Thank God for the fond memories of you that have now become a source of solace.

You were always an accommodating and relatable uncle to me. We shared the same bed [in Abiola Ojo] and ate together, often from the same plate. We particularly relished Mama Ondo's delicious Ila Asepo and Efo riro!

We shared a love for dogs and used to enjoy taking them along [for added security] at the boxing matches you organized. I remember the exciting days of your involvement in Sports Promotion.  
You were a passionate lover of sports as a whole!

Ayotola recalls your infectious smile with which you welcomed her from inception and greeted her till the end. You always wanted her to be relaxed in your company, and she keeps repeating your opening greeting line to her; 'How are ya'! 
We remember the many years of getting regular deliveries of foodstuff (Garri Lucky, Yams, Bush meat & so on) that you either bought from Ondo or delivered on behalf of Mama Ondo to us.

You were  devoted to your siblings and family, so it's no wonder that you were also a very dedicated and caring husband, father, and grandfather. I look back with pride when I remember that I introduced you and your dear wife Bimbo to each other. 

Bros Femo, you will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

In my first year at the Rivers State University, Uncle Femi came to visit me at my hostel, as he was based in PH then. I remember seeing him walk in. He wore a Chicago Bulls face cap, Chicago Bulls Jersey, Chicago Bulls Shorts, and Chicago Bulls Socks and Trainers...
That memory has never left me. It remains very vivid in my mind. I remember screaming "Uncle Femi" while I flew downstairs. Everyone wanted to know who that was, whilst I was just so excited to see my Uncle.. 
I saw you few and far between the years, yet every time you always had a smile for me and a pat on the back for me.. Uncle Femi.. I can't believe that I'm writing this..  Rest in perfect peace Uncle.

My dearest uncle Femi,

I am still trying to wrap my head around the news of your passing . I am at a loss for words.
Uncle Femi was  a true man of honour; He was extremely generous and a gentle giant with such a calming spirit about him. Whilst we reflect on your great legacy and the memories, I can’t help but think nothing will fill the void. When a man of such magnitude returns to his maker, the loss is so greatly felt. 
My deepest condolences to my Auntie Bimbo, my cousins and the five beautiful grand children. I pray that the fond memories and love shared between you all provides solace. May you all continue to carry on Uncle Femi’s legacy.
May God continue to have grace over the entire family and provide comfort at this time.

You would make sure that I answered 5 math questions correctly before you said yes and called your driver to get the Reward. 

Today, as we bid you farewell. I have no doubt that several testimonies will be made about your kindness, playfulness and presence of mind to ensure you instill certain values in any interaction you have with people.

We remember my first encounter 4 years ago when my wife your niece, Bunmi introduced me to you as her fiance, we had a long talk on marriage, parenting and career. 

You literally walked us through what to expect in all three as I was getting set for that stage in my life; it was amazing listening to how you succeeded in all. 

You were jovial, friendly and accommodating. Prior to that, I had heard only good things about you and our encounters solidified that.

You and your wife Auntie Bimbo, were one of the few persons we looked up to and we had hoped we would have more physical encounters. 

However, your demise has made that impossible coming to the realization that we will never see again in this world is heartbreaking, if tears could have brought you back to life, it would have done that already.

We will undoubtedly miss you and your wise counsel.

May God grant you eternal rest and light perpetual shine on you.

Writing this tribute is the hardest task ever for me, because I am yet to come to terms with your passing. 

Femi I miss you and this loss is too much to bear. I take solace in God's words  ' That wether we live, we live unto the Lord and wether we die we die unto the Lord also'. 

I thank God for the opportunity I had to be your Sister and for you to be my brother that I could count  on in my times of need.

Femo as I called you or Flame as your wife called you, the good Lord will keep your flame burning as you pass on the flame to your loving, adorable wife Bimbo and children.

I will miss your great sense of humour and your deep knowledge of Yoruba wise sayings. To live in the hearts of those we love is not to die.

Uncle Femi Ogunniya means more to me than an uncle; he's a father, a father in a league of his own. He graciously took me under his care after the demise of Grandma Olufunke Ogunniya.

For over a decade, Uncle showed me the essence of fatherhood. While he might not be the most expressive when it comes to emotions, his genuine and loving nature shines through his actions.

The parental care I received from him and his wonderful wife, Mummy Bimbo, along with their sponsorship of my education, are pivotal factors that have permanently transformed my life.

Uncle Femi epitomizes biblical love. I've witnessed him assisting strangers who could never repay his kindness.

Uncle Femi possesses one of the most infectious senses of humor you'll ever encounter. A single word or gesture from him is enough to send you into fits of uncontrollable laughter. It's simply impossible to meet my Uncle and not depart with a smile on your face - it's just impossible.

There's so much more to say about this remarkable, detail-oriented, fashionable, and intelligent man.

Uncle is also an ardent supporter of the Manchester United Football Club, a club we both passionately love. We always find time to discuss team updates and match analyses when we're not engaged in political discussions. Uncle never missed his daily dose of the Punch Newspaper. 

He once mentioned to me that he would have loved to be a newspaper columnist, I guessed his business preoccupation never afforded him the time.

All praise to God for the impactful life Uncle lived, and glory to God for the seeds and enduring legacy he leaves behind.

Rest in peace, dear father. You have fought a good fight, you have run your race, you have finished your course. There is now laid up for you in heaven the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to you on that Day, for the incredible things you've done and the lives you've impacted.

You will be deeply missed, forever in my heart.

Uncle Femi (Uncle Flame, my own Baba Kekere)...I find it onerous to put my "state of mind" and just how much you meant to me into words. You were not just any uncle but the "coolest"; Most of us (nieces and nephews) agree that you were very accessible and that you loved us.

Without asking, you signed me up at club 2000 in 1993, on Allen Avenue and deposited N200 so I could rent movies over the holidays. Clearly, the PPP of the Naira was strong then. My reg number was 2248 and the first movie I rented with my siblings was "the little mermaid". Needless to say, we were probably the coolest kids on the block that year.

You looked out for me at Unilag by making sure I was never out of pocket. All I had to do was call and you would send some money through Mr Fatai.

These memories and others are etched in my heart forever. Your guidance and advice will remain invaluable. I am glad my son, Folajimi, shares the same birthday as you, which you remember every year. This speaks to the love you have for me and mine.

I want to express my deepest gratitude for "looking out for me". I will forever be thankful for the lasting mark you left.

Saying goodbye is never easy, but I know that you'll live on in my heart and in the countless memories I have of you. Though you may be physically gone, your spirit will continue to inspire me.

I have  experienced a rollercoaster of emotions  since I heard the news of your passing last week. I have been sad, I have been angry, I have been confused as to why this happened at this point in our lives but amongst the lows, the emotion/feeling that prevails is one of HONOUR! 

I am beyond honoured to be your nephew, to have been your friend and most importantly just to have known you. We had a unique bond because though we didn’t speak every day, there was always a great deal of love and fondness for one another. 

Sitting back now and reflecting on the precious times we spent together and the countless amount of life lessons you thought perhaps even without you knowing but by me just observing how you conducted yourself as loving family man, I will forever be grateful to you. 

The last thing you told my wife (Samantha) and I was how extremely proud you were of us and seeing us get married made you extremely happy. Uncle, I will hold that with me forever. 

No one can ever tell me any different as I know you did the best you could whilst on this earth and left the best legacy any man could possible leave in that you and Aunty raised four incredible children & five beautiful grandchildren. 

It definitely hurts that you’re not here with us anymore but it brings me solace knowing that you’ve found eternal peace whilst watching down on us with Mama on one side and Uncle Funwa on the other smiling. 

Those of us that knew you well know that there was nothing you loved more than your family and like I said, I am HONOURED to have been a member of your family!

Today, as we gather with heavy hearts, we come together to honor the memory of a truly remarkable man, Uncle Femi Ogunniya. The news of his passing on the 8th of September 2023 has left us all in disbelief, grappling with a profound sense of loss. A great soul has departed from this earthly realm, and we are left with a void that cannot be filled.
I still remember the first time I had the privilege of meeting Uncle Femi. I was just a young teenager of 12 or 13, and it was my sister Abimbola (Nee Isong) Ogunniya who introduced you to our late Mum in Ibadan. Little did I know that this introduction would mark the beginning of a cherished bond that would endure for a lifetime.
Over the years, Uncle Femi transcended the role of a family member; he became a dear friend and mentor to me. We shared countless special moments together, and each one remains etched in my heart as a precious memory. I recall with great fondness your wedding day in London, where the atmosphere was filled with love and joy as you and Sister Bimbo embarked on your journey of marital bliss. Your union was a beautiful testament to the power of love and unwavering commitment.
I also vividly remember the day your firstborn entered this world—an occasion filled with pure elation and celebration. You radiated happiness as a new chapter of your life unfolded before our eyes, and it was evident that you would be an extraordinary father to all your four children.
One memory that stands out is my first visit to Nigeria in 2001 when I stayed at your home in GRA Ikeja. You welcomed me with open arms, not just as your wife's younger brother, but as your own. In all your homes, there was always a room for me. I was looking forward to seeing you on the 26th of September when I planned to visit Lagos before making my way to Ibadan, but fate had other plans, robbing me of that opportunity.

Late Femi Ogunniya was a childhood friend of mine. His father was cousin to my father the late Raphael Akinola Akinmade. Femi and I, Bankole Akinmade grew up together. When he attended Saint Joseph’s College, Ondo I attended Ondo Grammar School. Over the years we kept in close contact  and periodical check on each other. I will surely miss my dear friend. We  are heart-broken at the passing of esteemed classmate and dear friend, Femi Ogunniya, fondly called Baba Ewe Flame.  He was a kind-hearted and extremely generous colleague. He always brought much joy and laughter to our forum. We shall miss him. We keep his family in our thoughts and prayers. So long Flame, till we meet again.

To the family, please accept my deepest sympathy. Wishing the family peace, comfort, courage and lots of love at this time of sorrow. My heart goes out to all of you at this difficult time. It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we “Nobilitas 68/72” mourn the sudden passing of our beloved friend, Femi Ogunniya - alias  Flame🔥.  His departure has left an irreplaceable void in our lives, and we gather to honor his memory and celebrate the incredible person he was.

Femi was a beacon of light, radiating warmth, kindness, and compassion to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His genuine smile, and unwavering support touched the lives of countless individuals. He had an innate ability to make everyone feel seen, heard, and valued, creating an atmosphere of love and acceptance wherever he went.

Beyond his remarkable character, Femi was a true friend. He was always there to lend a helping hand, offer words of encouragement, or simply be a listening ear. His unwavering loyalty and genuine care for others made him a pillar of strength and a source of comfort during both joyous and challenging times.

In his professional life, excelled as a businessman. His dedication, passion, and unwavering work ethic were evident in everything he pursued. He approached each task with enthusiasm and a commitment to excellence, leaving an indelible mark on all those he collaborated with.
Femi’s departure leaves us with a profound sense of loss, but let us find solace in the memories we shared and the impact he had on our lives. As we navigate this difficult time, let us remember his infectious spirit, his zest for life, and his ability to find joy in the simplest of moments.

Thank you for sharing with us the legacy of this incredible man, he was indeed a good man with a good heart. I can attest to his kindness to me and his generosity to people he met. I learned a great deal from him, both in his straightforwardness, and his business sense. As I read the obituary, I couldn't help  the tears again, especially from seeing his pictures in that famous hat I used to admire. The first time I met Bro Femi after returning from the U.S, he was wearing that similar hat and he always looked good in it. I tried to emulate him in that hat, but it wasn't the same..😃😃.  Bimbo, my dear sister-in-law has been a great wife and a great companion to Bro Femi, and it is unfortunate that this untimely event has created this separation. Again, we pray that God bestows his strength on each and every one of us to deal with this untimely loss, especially on his wife, Mrs. Bimbo Ogunniya. Bro Femi did well for himself and his family, and we should all remember him for that, for his beautiful children and grandchildren. Let us celebrate his life in every aspect we know, and support each other as we all deal this unexpected event.
