He is survived by his wife, 4 children, 5 grandsons, his brothers and sisters.
Femi Ogunniya was born on the 4th of May 1956 in Ondo Town to parents, Benjamin Olawoye Ogunniya the late Bapaiye of Ondo Kingdom, head of Agriculture at Western Nigeria Development corporation (WNDC) and Olufunke Ogunniya, the daughter of Emmanuel Akinrodoye Fambegbe, a descendant of the Odunwo Fambegbe of Ondo Kingdom.
He spent his early life in Ondo and Ibadan before moving to America through Mexico for his studies. He returned to Lagos in 1982 where he spent his life building his various businesses in sports and tourism, the oil sector, marine services, construction and agriculture.
Femi Ogunniya was a doting and faithful husband. He met his wife, Abimbola Iquo Ogunniya nee Isong in 1982, marrying in 1990. He had been by her side for over 41 years.
The couple have 4 children together. Aramide ‘Sugar,’ whom he named his second tugboat after, Omoshalewa ‘Shasha,’ Omowonuola Funke and Olufunwa Franklin, the baby of the family, whom he adored. He told all his children how important they were to him and never shied away from letting them know that they were loved - he always put them first.
Femi Ogunniya was a private man with a hard shell and a soft interior. Those who really had the pleasure of knowing him would describe him as genuine, eccentric, funny, and loyal. He dedicated his life to protecting and serving those he loved dearly. The overarching descriptor of his personality was simply that he was a kind and righteous man. His generosity, clean heart and eclectic fashion sense preceded him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
A funeral is scheduled for 1pm Saturday 16th of September at Floral Hills Funeral Home in Tucker, Georgia with a reception to follow at the same location.
The family would like to thank all who have supported them during this time.
“Femi has run the race. He may not have been an ardent church go-er but he loved as God asked us to love with all we have. This is Femi’s legacy to us”
-Chief Mrs. Dele Akinnawo (nee. Ogunniya)
Matriarch of the Ogunniya family
