Francis Emmanuel, Beloved, Husband, Father, Grandfather ,Brother, Uncle, Mentor, Friend, and Soldier of the Lord, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 26th, 2024 at the age of 75. Originally from St. Lucia, he was born in 1949 to Joseph and Gertrude Emmanuel. He was affectionately known as Girard, Shining, or Pops. He was a skilled soccer (football) player, earning him the nickname Swift, and a place on the St. Lucian national team.
He parlayed that into a soccer scholarship at the University of Bridgeport (CT), where he earned his Bachelors in Actuarial Science. He began his career as a math teacher to high school students in St. Lucia, evolving into his core work as an Actuary in various positions including most recently, Aon Hewitt and Exide Technologies where he officially retired from in 2017. He was inducted into the American Academy of Actuaries in March 2000 and enrolled as a Fellow into the Society of Actuaries in 2008.
Dedicated to his faith in Jesus Christ, he served the Lord in many roles such as Deacon, Bible Teacher, Mercy Ministry, and Planning & Administration at several churches, including Grace Presbyterian Church, and most recently, at Star Community United Methodist Church (UMC), both located in Stone Mountain, GA.
Francis resided in Stone Mountain, GA for 34 years, where he enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially in his backyard. He looked forward to spending quality time with friends and family, watching sports of all kinds, particularly Soccer (Football) and Cricket. He also coached several children’s soccer teams. He appreciated several different types of music, with gospel reggae and steel drum (pan) being some of his favorites.
He is survived by his dear wife, Lorna, whom he was married to for 49 years, four children, Keeron, Reena, Franz (daughter-in-law Danielle), Teresa, seven grandchildren, Aisha, Francine, Lavynder, Joseph, Gideon, Selah, and Eden, brother Gregory, Sisters Agatha and Maisy, along with several nieces and nephews.
A viewing is scheduled from 10am to Noon on Saturday May 11th and the Memorial Service is scheduled on Saturday, May 11th at 1 p.m. Both will be held at Star Community United Methodist Church (UMC), 5365 Memorial Drive, Stone Mountain, GA 30083.
A cemetery side burial service is scheduled on Saturday, May 11th at 4 p.m. at Floral Hills Funeral Home & Memory Gardens, 3150 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084, with a reception to follow at 5.p.m.
