He had been in home hospice care at the time of his death. He was the beloved father of Michael Stephenson of Atlanta and the beloved uncle of Anthony P. and Deborah Hamon Neidlinger of Athens, AL. Rose Marie and Duane Thompson of Sheboygan, WI, and Ruth Ann Baker of Visalia, CA all of whom survives him, as well as his "adopted" granddaughter, Dawn Marie Diaz of White Plains, NY and numerous "adopted" great-grandchildren of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Mary Virginia and his second wife Marjorie as well as brothers, Frank E. Stephenson, Jr. and Robert L. Stephenson, his sisters, Mary Neidlinger and Patricia Marcou.
He was an Army Veteran and an honoree of the National World War II Musieum in New Orleans. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, January 4, 2016 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 3773 Chamblee Tucker Rd, Atlanta. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until Mass time
Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Terre Haute, IN. Since the burial will be out of state the family request donations be made to help with final expenses at www.gofundme.com/fredstephensonfund.
