

George Edward North, III, of Chamblee, Georgia, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, at the age of 96. Born in Columbia, South Carolina on August 10, 1928, George lived a life dedicated to his family, his work, and the art of woodworking. An avid woodworker, George specialized in intarsia and segmentation, creating hundreds of beautiful pieces for friends, family, charities, and his church. He generously shared his talent by instructing others in the art of intarsia and scrolling, and he was a founding member of the Gwinnett Woodworkers Association.
George’s faith was an integral part of his life which he expressed in his intarsia pieces. He attended Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, Georgia for the last few years and had previously attended Oak Gove Methodist where he donated much of his artwork to help raise money for local missions. A devoted and loving husband and father, he was married to the love of his life for 69 years Dorothy Q. North. Together they raised three sons: George Michael (Mike), Christopher Pollard, and Richard Alan.
George is survived by his sons (and daughters-in-law), Christopher (Pamela), and Richard (Janice), and Daughter-in-law Jennifer North.
George leaves behind a proud lineage of grandchildren (and spouses); Robert (Stephanie D.) North, Steven (Stephanie A.) North, Ryan (Rachelle) North, Stephanie (Johnny) Debski, Amanda (Jadon) Diehl, Katie North, Christy (Zack) Greves, Jonathan North, Mathew North, and Andrew North.
George is survived by his great-grandchildren (and spouses); Hayden North, London North, Lyndon North, Dana (Misael) Martinez, Kaeli North, Alexa North, Lily North, Emmy North, Jace Debski, Amelia Debski, Eli Debski, Ashton Debski, Julia Debski, Brody Diehl, Maddie Diehl, Savannah Diehl, Payton Greves, Leo North, and his great-great grandchild Luca Martinez.
George is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Dorothy North, as well as his eldest son G. Michael North, his parents George II and Annie North, his sister Anne Boylston, his grandson David North, and his great granddaughter Alaina Debski.
George will be remembered for his dedication to his craft, his devotion to his loved ones, and the impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in George's memory may be made to American Kidney Fund or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
