

Gwendolyn is survived by her daughter and son, Linda (Rick) Rarick (Rockport, TX) and Edward (Kellie) Smith (Braselton, GA), sister, Elizabeth Carmichael (Canton, GA), along with grandchildren Rachel Wilkins (Houston, TX), Taylor Wilkins (Austin, TX), Kristina Colon (Atlanta, GA), Madeline Rarick (Waco, TX), and Matthew Smith (Braselton, GA). She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Woodie Smith Jr. (Stockbridge, GA) and granddaughter Samantha McKensie Smith (Atlanta, GA); her siblings Roy Brown, Emory Brown, Mary Chitwood, Clara Carter, and Donald Brown.
Gwendolyn was born on February 3, 1931 in Ayersville, GA, to the parents E. Spear Brown and Maranda Christine Kytle. Gwendolyn moved to the Atlanta area and accepted a position as a telephone operator at Southern Bell/AT&T, where she dedicatedly worked for over 30 years.
Married to Woodie in 1962, Decatur, GA, Gwendolyn was a beloved and a loving mother and grandmother. Family and friends will always remember her as a dedicated and devoted person, often visiting, spending time and sharing memories with them.
Gwendolyn was an active woman, cherishing gardening activities her entire life. She often played card games with dear long-time friends during her retirement.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday on May 5, 2022, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 3150 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a memorial service from 1 to 2 p.m., Pastor Anne Cumings will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gwendolyn’s life. Following the memorial service, family will gather and receive friends at the Old Hickory House, 2202 Northlake Pkwy, Tucker, GA to share fond memories of Gwen.
