

James "Jim" Winters of Decatur went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 following a six year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Cedar Hill, Tennessee to G.C. and Frances Matthews Winters and attended Springfield High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Tennessee Technological University. After college Mr. Winters trained in the Chemical Corps of the Army Reserves, obtaining the rank of First Lieutenant. Jim then began a twenty five year career at USS Agri-Chemicals, spending much of that time as a supervisor of the soil and nematode testing lab then the quality assurance lab. He went on to work an additional twenty two years in quality control at Hexion Inc. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Josephine Winters, grandson Peter Kirby and son in law Robert Kirby. Jim is survived by his brother Tony (Kaye) Winters of Franklin, TN; three daughters, Auneca Kirby of Canton, Omega (Mark) Hedgepeth of Milledgeville, GA, Dauna (Mike) Winters-Prewett of Lawrenceville, GA; seven grandchildren, Matt (Cathy) Kirby of Ballground, GA, Jim (Lindsey) Winters of Cumming, GA, Joey Winters (Fiance Katie Craggs) of Marietta, GA, Zack (Rebekah) Hedgepeth of St. Simons Island, GA, Abbey (Ty) Ansley of Peachtree Corners, GA ,Crystal (Danny) Cook and Kevyn Prewett currently stationed in Japan; and nine great grandchildren. Services will be held at noon, Saturday, May 25th at Floral Hills Memory Gardens Chapel with Tamara Smathers officiating. The family will receive friends from 11a.m. to noon Saturday with a service immediately following in the chapel.
