John Harold Lammert

John Harold Lammert, 77, of Tucker, GA died Sunday, March 3, 2013. Born in Birmingham, AL, John graduated from Duke University where he was a Lambda Chi Alpha. He attended Candler School of Theology and was ordained as a minister in 1960 by the North Georgia Conference of the Methodist Church. He served the YMCA for 24 years as Program Director for the Decatur GA and Atlanta Northside branches and was also Executive Director of the Montgomery AL South Branch YMCA and the Ashford Dunwoody YMCA in Atlanta. One of the highlights of his career with the YMCA was working with the Indian Guide/Indian Princess Programs. He also was instrumental in bringing youth soccer to the Atlanta area. He worked for Millen Properties and later formed his own company, Hedgerow Homes. He enjoyed the family's vacations in Sautee GA and made many friends there and at the Helen First Baptist Church. One of his most meaningful volunteer accomplishments was supervising the building of Helen First Baptist Church. He also volunteered for the Tucker Recreation League, Henderson High PTA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the 1996 Olympic Games. For 45 years he was statistician for the Atlanta Hawks. He is survived by his wife Janice Lammert, son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Steve Lammert and Dr. Laurie Lammert, daugter and son-in-law, Donna and Kevin Freeman, grandsons, Josh and Luke Lammert and Bobby and John Freeman, and his brother, Bill Lammert of Birmingham, AL. The family will receive friends at Floral Hills Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday.The funeral will be at Smoke Rise Baptist Church, 5901 Hugh Howell Rd., Stone Mountain GA at 10 :00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 with interment following in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker.
