On Tuesday morning, October 25th, our wonderful father peacefully slipped into the arms of His loving Savior. He had recently been hospitalized at St. Joseph’s Hospital due to heart problems. He passed away at the age of 82 at his home on Morris Avenue in Tucker, GA. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Rose Smallwood; his four children, John Michael Smallwood, Deborah Gail Smallwood Chambers, Samuel Lucius Smallwood and David Ray Smallwood. John had six precious grandchildren: Jennifer, Kaycee, Jamie, Collin, Sydney, Samantha and three wonderful great grandchildren: Anabel, Maddy and Dallas. His family was the light of his life.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held, Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Floral Hills Funeral Home located at 3150 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA. The family will be receiving visitors at 10 AM and the service will begin at 11 AM. Pastor John Baker will be officiating the service. The cremated remains will be interred at his hometown of Commerce, GA, at a later date. It was John’s desire to have a casual get together to celebrate with family and friends. Therefore, the dress will be casual, not formal. If you have any other questions, please contact Deborah Chambers at 770-310-3871.
In lieu of flowers, we would like for donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. As a veteran of the Korean War era, member of the Air Force and an avid WWII historian, this ministry to serve those soldiers who have been injured in the line of duty has a special meaning to Dad. You may make an honorary donation on their website at woundedwarriorproject.org or by mail to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517. If you take a look at the website and see all that they do to help with rehabilitation and recovery, you will see why this was close to my father’s heart.
After 82 years of wonderful living, John Herman Smallwood graduated to his eternal home. His earthly race is done and he ran it well to the end. Our earthly chain is broken for a short while. He has gone on ahead of us and one day God will link the family chain again for all eternity.
Arrangements under the direction of Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Tucker, GA.
