Maria E. Smith

Graduated with her RN degree from Barnes School of Nursing, Washington University, St. Louis, MO. She was a student in the Army Nurse Core, graduating 1947. She was born in Lincoln, Nebraska of German Russian parents. Her love of nursing led to many interesting jobs. Her first love was pediatrics starting with graduate work in Washington, D.C. She worked in emergency nursing and ICU as well. She met Henry Smith in Denver, CO in 1954 where they were married. Henry and Maria were married for more than 58 years and had 4 children. During their marriage they moved many times and lived in three of the four corners of the continental U.S. Maria was very active in her church family and was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Tucker, GA, since her move to Atlanta more than 40 years ago. She loved and sold Avon for 26 years and was a member of the Avon Presidents Club for more than 20 of those years. She is survived by her husband Henry, her daughter, Suzanne Mailman, and her daughter Teri Smith both of Tucker, GA, her son Mark Smith and daughter-in-law Kimball Hense, Winter Haven, FL, her daughter Joanne Buckner and son-in-law Robert Buckner of Stone Mountain, GA, their children (Maria’s grandchildren) Michelle, and Kyle Buckner, Stone Mountain, GA, Brad Buckner and wife Jenna Buckner, their children (Maria’s great-grandchildren) Nicholas and Isabella Burkett, and Cooper Buckner of Loganville, GA. The viewing will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Floral Hills Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 3150 Lawrenceville Hwy., Tucker, GA 30084 with the funeral following at 12:15 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2110 Brockett Road, Tucker, GA 30084.
