

Born on November 20,1941 in Chicago, IL to the late Larry F. Pouzar and the late Joan Gerchus Pouzar. The family later relocated to Winfield, IL. Penny was a graduate of Marycrest College in Davenport, IA. During her college days she met her husband, Les Lampe. After living in Chicago for several years they and later moved to Georgia to raise their family.
Penny began her public service career with the Internal Revenue Service. In time, she was hired by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to work on the selected cancers portion of the agent orange project. When the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) became a sister agency to CDC, she worked for the Director of the Division of Health Assessment and Consultation. Prior to her retirement, she became Special Assistant to the Public Health Service Chief Engineer and continued assisting the Deputy Director and Senior Medical Officer of the division. Throughout Penny‘s career, she received numerous awards for her dedication and excellence. After retirement, Penny continued to serve and took on the role of Sacramental Secretary at Holy Cross Catholic Church where she was also an active member for over 50 years.
As a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Penny volunteered countless hours, served with many ministries and was recognized at one time as the Parish Woman of the Year. Throughout her life in Atlanta, Penny also volunteered for many years with the DeKalb Atlanta Swim League. She loved trips to the beach, enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and spending time with family and friends. She touched and uplifted countless lives with her selfless service to others. A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Penny will fondly be remembered in the hearts of many by her thoughtfulness, generosity, kindness and devotion.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Ann Lampe. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Les Lampe; daughter, Christi Caragher of Suwanee; grandchildren, Michael Caragher (Sarah Beth) of Covington, GA; Nick Caragher of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Susan Casanova of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren, Isabella Casanova, Paulina Casanova and Sophia Casanova of Lilburn, GA; and several cousins.
Services will be held on Friday, August 30 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Atlanta. Visitation at 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Penny's memory to Holy Cross Catholic Church, Atlanta designated to the St. Martin de Porres food pantry or St. Vincent de Paul Society.
