Theodorou, William (Bill) Demetrius, age 89, went to Heaven to watch over his wife and family on April 20, 2021. Born to Greek immigrants in Brooklyn, NY, Bill exhibited all the qualities of his rich culture and heritage: he was thrifty, generous, and exceedingly loving. Bill's career began early when he joined the United States Army at the age of 21, after completing two and half years of study as an electrical engineer at Columbia University. He was appointed as a 2nd Lieutenant, Wire Operations Officer in the Signal Corps during the Korean War, serving time overseas and earning the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Service Medal. He loved his country and had deep respect for its military. Upon his return from the service, he accepted a job at Western Electric Company, where he worked as an electrical engineer in their production and quality assurance departments for 30 years. He was considered a "walking engineering encyclopedia" by his coworkers, so much so that after his retirement, he was contracted by Lucent Technologies, Inc. to work in a supervisory capacity as a consultant for another 15 years. Bill married the love of his life and Italian equal, Concetta "Connie" Depasquale, 65 years ago. The two shared everything together, including time in the kitchen, a dry sense of humor, and their favorite hobby of antiquing. They opened up their own antique store, "The China Closet," in Decatur, GA, and traveled across the southeast dealing at antique shows for many years, before closing their store and joining the "Kudzu Antiques + Modern" family in 1979. Bill had a knack for discovering and restoring unique items, and frequently commented that antiquing was the retirement hobby that kept him young through all the years. He still maintained a booth at Kudzu until the time of his passing. Bill and Connie were blessed with four children and six grandchildren. His love of family superseded everything. His famous fatch-a-mali hot dog sauce, handwritten Santa notes, and supportive wisdom will be dearly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Demetrius and Evangelini; brother, Loukas; and daughter, Cynthia Rogers (John). He is survived by his wife, Connie; his brother, Philemon; his children, Evangeline, Christine Rudell (Christopher), and James (Karen); his grandchildren, Gretchen Weeks (Ashley), Victoria Bolus (Anthony), Lauren Shepard (Michael), Luke, Thomas Rogers, and Hunter Rudell; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 1, at 1:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM for limited family and friends due to COVID-19 guidelines. Services will take place at Floral Hills Funeral Home & Cremation Services located at 3150 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA 30084. For friends and family not able to be present in person, the funeral will be livestreamed on Facebook at the Floral Hills Funeral Home & Cremation Services group page (@FloralHillsFuneral). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance in memory of Bill's beloved daughter, Cynthia.
