

Winston was born July 30, 1941 to Helen B. and Charles Z. Cunningham in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa and attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Winston married the love of his life, Judy Brown, in Atlanta on June 29, 1974. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, Clarissa and Grace.
He was an electronics engineer. Winston retired from Baker Audio where he designed and installed communications systems for major airports in the U.S. and Canada.
He worked for HRTronics running the sound system at the Atlanta Fulton County Stadium for the Atlanta Braves games and was an avid fan, witnessing historical moments in baseball.
Winston worked for Walt Winn Sound and ran theatrical sound for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concerts and Theater Under the Stars in Chastain Park, Wit’s End Players, ballet companies, the Rich’s Tree Lighting in downtown Atlanta.
He was a member of the stagehands’ union (IATSE) and controlled sound at the Fox Theater for performances including Atlanta Ballet’s “The Nutcracker.” He was involved in the Save the Fox campaign and enjoyed giving backstage tours.
Winston sang tenor with church choirs, the Tulsa Opera Guild, and a Gilbert and Sullivan company in Winchester, Mass. Winston was a member of the Tulsa Engineering Society, Audio Engineering Society, Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, Atlanta Theater Organ Guild, and North Georgia Live Steamers, repairing and operating small-scale steam engines (“playing trains”).
He was devoted to his family and loved his friends. All who knew him admired his generous spirit and vast knowledge on numerous subjects. Winston took joy in learning and sharing the history of things and how they work.
Winston was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Charles Cunningham, daughter Clarissa Cunningham, and great niece Keira Miller. He is survived by his wife Judy Brown Cunningham, of Tucker, GA, daughter Grace Cannon (Robert) of Washington, DC, grandchildren Austin Elbert Cannon and Alyssa Dawn Cannon, brother Carleton Cunningham of Daytona Beach, FL, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who are like family.
The service will be on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 2 pm at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 4882 Lavista Rd, Tucker, GA 30084, where Winston was a member. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity supporting the theatrical arts or engineering education. Following the service, the interment will be at Floral Hills Memory Garden, followed by a reception at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church.
