Amelia Campas Carranza, age 97, of Tucson, Arizona passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, surrounded by family. Amelia was born in 1926 to Fedicio and Maria Campas, both of whom preceded her in passing.
Amelia filled every day with love and devotion to her family. She was a lifelong housewife, building a home for her four children, several grandchildren, and great grandchildren; she is survived by her daughters Olga C. Lozano, Patricia A. Napier, and her son Alfonso C. Carranza. Amelia's youngest son Robert C. Carranza preceded her in passing, and she joins him now in eternity to watch over their loved ones. Amelia is further preceded in passing by her husband of forty years and the father of their children Alfonso J. Carranza.
Amelia was a loving and nurturing “Nana” and played a vital role in the upbringing of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchild: Cecilia Shreves (Mitchell, Lily, Emily), Dianna Lozano (John Tuttle), Gilbert Lozano (Kaylin), David Lozano, Jeffrey Napier, Jennifer McMurray (Justin, Aleesia, Jaxson, Ezekiel, Conor), Danielle & Elena Carranza, Nathan Allen (Rosalinda, Rosa, Alanna, Briyanna, Nathan Jr., A’donai).
Amelia is fondly remembered for her feisty spirit, her gentle soul, and her family famous "warm bread”. To this day, no one can bake those breakfast biscuits quite like she did, and she will be remembered for her special touch. Amelia loved to cook, to feed and nourish her family, with homemade tortillas, tamales, flat enchiladas, carne seca, and everything in between.
No stranger to hardship, Amelia overcame many health battles, and was a breast cancer survivor. She maintained this vitality well into her golden years, still mobile and independent with the aid of her devoted family taking camping trips and pressing her luck at the casinos.
Amelia's memory will be cherished at every sight of a blooming rose or the wafting scent of home-cooking. She will be deeply and dearly missed by family, friends, and all those who had the joy to know her.
A public visitation will be held for Amelia on Thursday, March 9th, 2023 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm in the Luz Chapel at Funeraria del Angel South Lawn Mortuary; a funeral service for Amelia will be held Friday, March 10, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S Stone Ave, Tucson, AZ 85701, followed by a burial at Holy Hope.
