His life was characterized by three flags:
The British Flag — Born on May 30, 1954, in Liverpool, England, Andy was the youngest child of Michael Joseph O’Brien and Margaret Birchall O’Brien, who have preceded him in death. Andy shared life with four siblings, two children from a previous marriage, and many nieces and nephews. Upon finishing school, Andy began his career as a butcher, spending 51 years in that artful trade. On October 20, 1990, Andy married his American sweetheart, Kathy. Throughout their 35 years of marriage, they have enjoyed bringing two different cultures together in a fantastic, God-centered life.
Flag of the U.S.A. — The later part of June 1995, Andy immigrated to America with Kathy returning to her homeland. On January 9, 2004, Andy became a legal citizen of the United States of America. Here in the good ole USA Andy continued his career in butchery, shared his love for cooking and catering, helped his wife in the teaching of American and Chinese children, served in his local church, and enjoyed supporting his favored Liverpool Football team from afar.
The Christian Flag — The citizenship that Andy looked forward to the most was his citizenship in heaven, granted to him through the shed blood and the forgiveness of his sins by his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. John 3:16 invites all men, women and children to obtain this special citizenship: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.” As Andy persevered through his battle with cancer in the last few years of his life, the promise of heaven became clearer to him. He couldn’t wait to get to his eternal home where he would meet Jesus face to face. That meeting took place on May 2, 2026 when Jesus welcomed Andrew to his forever home!
Graveside services will be held at East Lawn Palms Mortuary and Cemetery in the Sentinel Peak Garden on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. Meet us in the northeast corner of the cemetery as we celebrate Andy’s life.
In lieu of flowers, Andy had his own special request — “Please do something special to help my Mrs. in the days, weeks, and months to come. Honor me by spoiling her!”
Rest in peace, our beloved Andrew! See you soon!
