

Charles Earl Clark, 84, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away at home, surrounded by his family on May 23rd, 2024. Charles was born in Crittenden, Kentucky on Sept 18th, 1939. He and his family relocated to Arizona in 1949 when he was a child. He graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1958.
Charles was widowed by Mattie Kathryn Clark, whom he had married on May 27th, 1960. Shortly after their wedding they moved to Tucson Arizona. Charles was a career mason who had a hand in building the Tucson city skyline, as well as many structures around the country, most notably the Reagan library, the Saturn rocket launch complex, Kitt Peak National Observatory, and the pool for the Beverly Hillbillies TV show. His final construction job before retirement was the Casino Del Sol. Charles had incredible integrity and character. He volunteered on many projects through his church and community and would never deny someone help when they asked. He was kind and gentle to all.
Once he retired, Charles found one of his biggest joys in life. He started working with children with Down syndrome. He loved making them smile and laugh. He enjoyed seeing their love of life.
Charles had a passion for the desert and its wildlife. He loved exploring many of the numerous trails around Tucson as well as visiting the Desert Wildlife museum. There wasn’t a sunrise or sunset that he didn’t love. He always said:
“God promises us a new day”.
Charles is survived by his daughter Robin Torres, wife of Frank Torres, Daughter Cassie Herbst, wife of Jonathan Herbst. His grandchildren Frank Torres, husband of Elizabeth Torres, Nicholas Torres husband of Louis Creason. His sisters Faye Eiklor, Dottie Brady, Helen Knox, wife of Gerald Knox and his brother, Ronald Clark husband of Bonnie Clark as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private at the discretion of the family.
