Concepcion C Gonzales Jr.

Born on May 22, 1934, in Bisbee, AZ, Concepcion C. Gonzales, affectionately known as "Chonito," passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, at the age of 91.

Concepcion was the son of Concepcion Gonzales Sr. and Teresa Gonzales. His siblings are Marcelina Miller, Mina Schutenhofner, Yolanda Dorman, and Olga Ingeneri. He spent his early years in Bisbee, where he developed a strong sense of community. He worked underground in the Bisbee mine for seven years, followed by operating heavy equipment until the mines closed. He then moved his family to Tucson, where he continued his career as a shovel operator in the mines until his well-deserved retirement.

On February 25, 1961, Concepcion married Mary Gonzalez in San Pedro, CA. Their children are Katherine Gonzales, José C. Gonzales, and Barbara Gonzales. He preceded in death by his grandchildren Anthony Holguín, Regina Holguín, Paul Holguín, Survived by Valerie Gonzales, Fabián González, and José Gonzales Jr., as well as his great-grandchildren Anthony Holguín Jr. and Kimberly Holguín.

Concepcion was deeply involved in his community, notably helping to establish and manage the first Bisbee Chiefs in Bisbee, AZ, leaving a legacy in local sports and won championship. He coached Little League, leading teams to the All-Stars in Bisbee, AZ. He also played fast pitch in Tucson, AZ, at Al All the Parks Rodeo, Mission Manor, Santa Rita Park, David G. Herrera and Ramon Quiroz Park, and Joaquin Murrieta Park. He was also a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus in Bisbee, AZ. A lifelong runner, he continued his passion into his early 80s. Concepcion loved coaching his kids and grandkids in sports and volunteered to drive his grandkids to and from school every day. He found joy in singing mariachi music with friends and family.

His sense of humor, laugh, and positivity will be forever treasured and dearly missed.

A visitation for Concepcion will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM at Funeraria del Angel South Lawn, 5401 South Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85706.

A funeral mass will occur Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Roman Catholic Church of St John the Evangelist, 600 W Ajo Way, Tucson, AZ 85713.

A graveside service will occur Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 11:30 AM at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S Park Ave, Tucson, AZ 85706.
