January 27th, 1964- April 20th, 2023
Cottonwood Heights, UT
Dallas Shane Jackman was born in Salt Lake City, UT on January 27th of 1964 to Dallas Ardo Jackman and Geraldine (Jeri) Rasmussen Jackman. Shane grew up among the pine, aspen, and redrock background of the Utah wilderness. He inherited from his father a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife. He loved devoting his time to camping, hiking, skiing, rock-climbing, rafting and most of all, sharing songs and stories around a campfire.
In his youth, Shane found his love for music and taught himself how to play the guitar. He was president of the Mountaineering Club at Brighton High School, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, worked as a Ski Patrol EMT responder, and served a mission for the LDS church in Southern Arizona and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Shane studied art and music at the University of Utah and Southern Utah University, where he met and fell in love with Linda Reely. They married in the Autumn of 1986 and together they embarked on the beginning of Shane’s career as a musician. Shortly after the birth of his daughter, Shaiann, they sold their home, packed their lives into a Volkswagen bus, and set out to Boston, MA to test Shane’s musical talents against the discerning crowds of the New England hub of folk music.
In Ipswitch, MA, Shane tended to polo horses, cared for a young boy, and painted a 200 year old barn in return for living quarters. Linda booked concerts and gigs, while Shane sharpened his songwriting and performing ability in the evening crowds. After a short time developing a reputation for insightful poetic lyricism and holding his own amongst the best musical talents, Shane was signed to a record label and increased his national touring. Amidst his rigorous touring schedule, Shane joyfully ushered in the birth of his son, Montana. When his children were older and in school, Shane signed to a local record label so he could devote more time to his family. They moved to Springville, UT where he continued to focus on music, performed locally, and released his fourth and fifth studio produced albums. In 2008 Shane underwent a personal renaissance of belief, turning towards a philosophy of love, generosity, free-thought, and natural beauty. After 22 years of loving, supporting each other, and raising a family together, he and Linda took their perspective paths, though they remained life-long friends.
Shane moved to Holladay, UT, where he worked as both a musician and a graphic artist. In 2012, he found love in Amy Lynn Brady, with whom he shared his passion for nature, poetry, music, and the outdoors. Through the years, they traveled as often as they could, to Boston, Mexico, and France, and enjoyed numerous road trips filled with joy and laughter across Canada and the United States. They shared campfires, hikes, and concerts together and provided guidance for his adult children and for Amy’s two sons, Jackson and Ashton. Shane and Amy married October 21st, 2019 in Salt Lake City.
Shane went on to spend much of his time living authentically in the freedom of the outdoors, making home wherever he went. He traveled along the Pacific coast, Baja California, and Arizona. His final days were spent writing, strumming, and finding peace in the beautiful western landscape for which he had always harbored a tender admiration. Shane wasn’t just a musician, he was an artist to his very core. He lived and breathed the philosophy of music and poetry. He collected stories from everywhere and saw the beauty in everything. He continues to touch the hearts of thousands today through the legacy of his recorded music. His kind eyes and passion continue on in his two children, whom he loved and cherished every day of his adventurous life.
Shane was preceded in passing by his parents, Dallas and Jeri Jackman; his bonus mom, Pat Nielsen Jackman, and his younger sister, Malai Copling. He is survived by his wife, Amy Brady Jackman; his children, Shaiann (Jordan) Springer and Montana (Kiko) Jackman; his step sons, Jackson and Ashton Fergus; and his siblings, Chaton (Gary) Rymer, Bret (Tonya) Jackman, Tory (Michelle) Jackman, Danai (Timothy) Willden, Kamn (Emilie) Jackman, Brock (Jennifer) Jackman, and Tanji (Jimmy) Noorlander
Shane passed away of natural causes, and the celebration of life will be held at the Picnic Terraces of Bowman Fork up Millcreek Canyon in Salt Lake on Sunday June 4th. The service for Shane will begin at 3pm. After Shane’s service, people are free to stay to eat, mingle and sit around the fire and exchange stories about Shane.
Parking is very limited so please carpool with friends if at all possible.
This is an outdoor campsite so please feel free to dress so that you will be comfortable. In case of rain, there may be a last minute change of venue which we’ll announce but please check the weather and take into consideration that Bowman Fork is a high elevation location and you may want to bring a sweater or light jacket.
We will serve charcuterie, hors d’oeuvres and have water for all guests. Feel free to bring any extra beverage you’d like to drink, light or strong. Some seating will be available for the service but without knowing how many people are coming, it would be a good idea to bring camping chairs up if you have them. Public bathrooms will be available nearby.
We invite friends to bring a guitar or any other instrument. Stay an hour or all afternoon and evening. We envision a casual and warm environment where we can support each other in our loss, listen to and play music and tell stories about Shane and what he meant.
Please email Amy at [email protected] if there are any questions regarding Shane’s service.
