On December 13, 1953, Dale married Mary Ann Herrberg, beginning a marriage that spanned a remarkable 72 years. Their life together was rooted in faith, steadfast commitment, and deep love for one another. Mary Ann was not only his wife, but his constant companion and devoted caregiver. She lovingly tended to him and remained faithfully by his side, even through life's more difficult seasons, including the loss of their daughters and Dale's Parkinson's diagnosis. Their marriage reflected a quiet faithfulness to God and to one another that sustained them over the years and will inspire others for generations to come.
Dale was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who remained deeply connected to his family throughout his life. He believed family was a blessing entrusted by God, and he took great care in loving, supporting, and remaining present for those he loved most. Time spent together was something he deeply valued.
Dale attended and graduated from Rock Creek Township School, after which he proudly served three years in the United States Coast Guard. He later earned his accounting degree from International Business College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and went on to open and operate his own certified public accounting practice for nearly 69 years. Whether serving his country or his clients, Dale approached his work with the same steady principles - honesty, diligence, and responsibility - and viewed both as meaningful ways to serve others.
A lifelong Christian, Dale was an active member of Tucson Baptist Church for 66 years. His faith was not only professed but practiced daily, shaping the way he lived, worked, and treated others. He was also a member of Kiwanis for over 50 years, further demonstrating his belief in service to both God and community.
Dale enjoyed staying active and proudly played basketball until the age of 83. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing dominoes and was an avid Boston Red Sox and University of Arizona sports fan. He loved conversation, telling stories, and sharing a joke, and he truly never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his daughters Lorene Edris and Theresa Hoopingarner; his parents Homer and Alta Edris; and his sister Beverly Skurner.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Edris; sister Donna Bradley; son-in-law Tom Hoopingarner; grandson Steve Hoopingarner and his wife Becky Fox; and six great-grandchildren: Dalee, Braxton, Ainzlee, Callee, Emlee, and Finlee.
Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Dale are welcome to gather for a graveside burial at East Lawn Palms Cemetery on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., and a memorial service celebrating his life and faith at Tucson Baptist Church on January 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
