

Daniel Francis “Frank” Slaven, 97, passed away peacefully at home in Cypress, TX on Jan 5, 2021. Frank was born in Madison County , Arkansas on Oct 25, 1923, to John and Dora (McClung) Slaven, the fourth of twelve children. He met Dorothy Howard, the love of his life, in Weskan, Kansas. They were married in 1947 and had 5 children - Frances, Daniel, Suzanne, John (Chip), and Ruth. Frank was a horse breaker, farmer, Operating Engineer, and long-haul truck owner/operator. He was a devout Christian, and an excellent singer who enjoyed singing church hymns. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping, and the great outdoors. As an Operating Engineer, he helped build Titan missile silos around southern Arizona, and the Arizona portions of many roads and highways, including I-10 and I-8.
He is survived by sister Isabel Smith, and brothers John Paul, Charles Duane, Lewis Eldon, and James Grant; daughters Frances Bethell, Suzanne Schoen, Ruth Slattery, son Daniel, six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy, son John Merton (Chip), his parents, sisters Ruby, Lily, and Melissa; and brothers William Winfield, Arthur Maurice, and Teddy Eugene.
A memorial service to celebrate Frank’s life will be held at South Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Tucson on Feb 2, 2021. He will be laid to rest beside his wife, Dorothy, and his younger son, John.
