Dorothy Ann (Ackerman) Young was born at her family’s farm home near Alliance, NE on May 31, 1928. When she was two months old her father died suddenly, and the family relocated to Cedar Rapids in central Nebraska, where they navigated the austere times of the Great Depression. Dorothy graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1946 and became a teacher.
Dorothy met the love of her life, Carroll D. Young, when they were both in the wedding party of their cousins. She and Carroll married in 1949 and began a life journey together spanning nearly 65 years, until Carroll’s death in 2013. Carroll was career military, and together they raised their family with duty locations in Nebraska, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico, New York, Hawaii, Arizona and Kansas, before retiring and returning to Tucson, AZ. For the last 7 years, Dorothy was a resident of the Forum Senior Living community and enjoyed meeting a variety of friends and sharing her life testimony of faith.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Susan (Steve) Hite and Patricia (Gregory) Moore of Tucson, and two sons, Thomas (Debra) Young of Columbia, SC and Brian (Marianne) Young of Boerne, TX, as well as 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was a born again Christian and was resolute in her faith in God, and was certain of her resurrection in Christ, her Savior. A funeral service for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday, December 10th at 11:00 AM at East Lawn Palms Mortuary, Tucson, AZ.
