Douglas Mason Pulliam, 74, passed away in the Tucson Veterans’ Hospital on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, after a short illness. He was born November 28, 1942, in Frankfort, Kentucky, to the late Joseph Herndon (Jack) and Hazel Phillips Pulliam.
In the summer of 1966, Douglas went to Tucson, where his father, step-mother, four half-sisters and one half-brother lived. He remained in Tucson until he passed away.
Douglas loved music, especially, of the fifties and sixties. He was blessed with a special talent to play the guitar, piano, and keyboard without any training. He had a remarkable memory and could listen to a song and learn to play it. He and some friends formed a small band and played at various places.
He was a charter member of the Highland Christian Church in Frankfort, Kentucky. In Tucson, he became a member of the South Highland Church of God, where he played keyboard and guitar in the regular church band.
Survivors include his brother, Joseph Larry (Janice) Pulliam of Georgetown, Kentucky; his step-mother, Patricia Pulliam of Tucson, Arizona; four half-sisters: Anna (Raymond) Taylor of Benson, Arizona; Joette (Harold) Copeland of Tucson, Arizona; Susan (Ralph Therrien) Pulliam of Beaconsfield, Quebec, Canada; Jacquelyn (Fred) Mabbott of Valencia, California; and the children of the above half-sisters and his late half-brother, Jeffrey (Lori) Pulliam of San Jose, California, as well as, several cousins in Kentucky, Florida, Connecticut, and Texas.
Douglas is, also, survived by a very special friend and landlady for many years, Mildred (Millie) Ellis. All the family want to thank Millie and her son, Patrick, for their help and kindness to Doug for many years. To Millie, who kept on helping, even in death, a very special “Thank You”.
And the family in Kentucky want to thank the Tucson family for all they have done for Doug all these years and to brother-in-law, Harold Copeland, who took over helping Doug with his doctor appointments, hospital visits, errands, etc. for the last so many years. We cannot thank you enough. You were a “Brother” to Doug.
Douglas served in the U.S. Army and has been buried in the Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery at Marana, Arizona, which is close to Tucson. A graveside memorial service will be held for Douglas on Saturday, April 1, 2017, at 10:00 AM. Pastor Glenn Davis of the South Highland Church of God will be conducting the service.
All the family would like to thank the Funeraria Del Angel Funeral Home for their special services. We thank Mary and David for their kindness, understanding and for taking care of special requests.
Arrangements under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel, Tucson, AZ.
