Edwin Lee Hurley, 77, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on October 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of humor, hard work, and love. Born in San Diego, California, on October 21, 1946, to Donald Hurley and Rita Walters, and was a graduate of Old Pueblo High School.
Ed and his beloved wife, Dollie (Lamrouex) Hurley, shared 55 years of marriage filled with companionship and shared joy. Together, they raised three daughters: Laura Bedell (George), Ester Shugart (Richard), and Ruthie DeHoag (Ezra). He was blessed with eight grandchildren—Raven Shugart, Richard Shugart, Grace Rainbell (Tyler), Sean Bedell, Winter DeHoag, Orion DeHoag, Savannah DeHoag, and Sierra DeHoag—each of whom brought him immense pride. He was affectionately known as “Grumpy-Pa” by his grandchildren, a nickname that became a badge of honor for his playful, loving spirit.
Ed worked as a grounds and labor worker and small engines mechanic for the University of Arizona, where he worked until his retirement. He was always curious, eager to learn new things about how machines worked, and was a resourceful problem-solver.
Ed’s humor and zest for life were evident in his love for telling stories and spending time with his family. He delighted in making people laugh and never hesitated to share a good joke. He often could be found fixing his car or helping others any way he could.His home was filled with the laughter of loved ones, the joy of family gatherings, and the presence of his cherished pets. He was a good friend to every dog he met.
Ed’s memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, and grandchildren, who will forever hold onto the laughter and lessons he shared.
Graveside services will be held at South Lawn Mortuary, Friday, October 18th, at 2pm. A small reception will be held following the service.
