2017. She went peacefully with her son Michael by her side.
Born July 26, 1917 in Atlantic City, New Jersey she was daughter of
Francis Xavier Hope and Elizabeth Agnes (O'Brien) Hope.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Burton R. Leed
(Burt) and a long list of others who did not survive her. She is survived by
her children Burton R. Jr. (Natalia) and Michael W. (Linda).
Grandchildren Michael P, Ryan (Alisa), Monica, and Gloria.
Great Granddaughters Adeline and Laurel.
"Betty" had a very privileged youth growing up in the families 3 homes in
Great Neck, Cape May and Philadelphia. All that privilege was
interrupted by the Great Depression. I am certain that influenced her
frugal nature. She would sacrifice of herself for the family.
After the war she married Burt and they started a
family in Philadelphia and then New Jersey. In 1963
they relocated to Tucson where she led the family on
the greatest adventures. She was fiercely
independent and had a quick wit. The titles of wife,
mom, grandma, and GG were sources of pride.
She was a devout Roman Catholic. Her faith and will
to live led to an extended fight with Dementia. Thank
you to all the staff at Handmaker where she was a
resident.
If a philosopher was to sum up Betty's long life he would say "nulla tenaci
invia est via", for the tenacious, no road is impassable. How fitting for a
woman born with the surname of “Hope".
At her request, there will be no services. She will be remembered at
Saint Joseph's Church and the family will have a private remembrance.
