Ellen Ball Martin
ELLEN BALL MARTIN and her twin were born February 14, 1926 to AJ and Alonia White Ball. The twin girls were born and raised in Guadalupe County. Ellen was the ninth child of twelve children born into the family. Ellen like all of her siblings were raised on a 144 Acre farm in the city of Seguin Texas. They were raised on the principal's of serving God, working hard, love of family and community.
She and her siblings were professionally taught how to play the piano. Ellen really excelled in her gift as a pianist and went on to play for many churches, groups and choirs. She lived with her parents until age
24. During this season of her life, she gave her life to Christ and was baptize in the Name of Jesus according to Acts:2:38.
While still home she attended classes at St. Phillips college where she took classes in secretarial training. Her new skills were used as she assisted her father as an excavator as notes and figures were called out. This work with her dad was one of her favorite memories.
Ellen raised in a home of faith and service to God, became the musician at Refuge Church in the late forties. She married George Daniel Martin Jr. on September 30, 1950. To their union two sons were born, Alfonso James Martin and George Daniel Martin III (died in infancy). George Jr. excepted his call to the ministry and Ellen and George both served faithfully at Refuge Church Seguin Texas until moving to Tucson, Arizona in Jan. 1959.
Ellen served in the work of the Lord as musician, soloist, pastors wife. She worked as a housekeeper until about age 88. The families she worked for were well-established, and their love and appreciation for her was shown through many acts of kindness. Her love for them and theirs for her could not be measured in currency.
Ellen was a prayer warrior, an encourager, a woman of humor and loving to all who entered her presence. She was a living testimony of the goodness of Jesus, with mountain moving faith.
She leaves to cherish her memories, son Alfonso James Martin and daughter in love Ginny, her baby sister, Alma Nathaniel of San Antonio, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews and host of friends.
