It is with great sadness that the family of Dr. Fred Edward Brickman announces his passing after a courageous three and half year battle with renal cancer at the age of 70 on May 19, 2016. Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife Rochelle "Shelley" Brickman (Feldman); daughter, Melanie Brickman Borchard (Paul); son, Adam Brickman (Claire Martin); sister, Robette Shurman (Gary); sister-in-law, Tobie Bloom (Lee); nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless other family members and dear friends.
Fred was born in Chicago, IL and raised by a loving family in New Orleans, LA where he was a member of the first graduating class of Benjamin Franklin High School in 1964. Fred chose to pursue medicine starting with a chemistry degree at Washington University, medical degree at Louisiana State University, internal medicine internship at the Dallas VA Medical Center, radiology residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital, followed by an ultrasound fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University. In addition to numerous honors and accomplishments during his medical career, Fred's most cherished achievement was meeting the love of his life, Shelley, at a social dance in New Orleans during medical school and marrying her soon thereafter. Following his education, Fred and Shelley settled into their adopted hometown of Tucson where he had a private radiology practice (X-Ray Ltd), serving patients in Tucson and the greater Southern Arizona communities.
In his personal life, Fred was delighted by time spent with friends, whom he viewed as an extension of his own family. Among these friends and the family he dearly loved, he was an avid conversationalist and sharer of his vast knowledge and wisdom -- all of which was best shared over a nice meal and a glass of wine. While he enjoyed both international and domestic travel, he felt the greatest pleasure in the simple experiences: Wildcat basketball and football games, grilling in the backyard, drawing cartoons, chatting over coffee at the kitchen table, wrapping way too many Chanukah presents, and sharing special moments with his family and friends, especially his wife Shelley; daughter, Melanie, and son, Adam. Although his life was shorter than we anticipated, we were all touched by his loving heart, unending optimism, and his gracious generosity.
Fred was preceded in passing by his parents Millie and Irving Brickman and brother-in-laws, Gary Shurman and Lee Bloom.
We invite you to join in remembering Fred with a Celebration of his Life and Burial at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2016 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 East Grant Road, Tucson.
