Garnet Agnes Jones was born on March 26, 1938 in Lakeview, South Dakota. She unexpectedly passed away on June 20, 2021 in Tucson, Arizona. Garnet is survived by her husband, Dale F. Jones; her three sons, Dale M. Jones (Ann-Lloyd), Monty Jones;Delvin Jones; daughter Marcy Turner (John); brothers, Ronald Palmer (Arlie), and Russell Palmer, of Billings, Montana; and sister Phyllis Desoto (Hal) of Lenoir, Tennessee. She also has nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Garnet was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Palmer; mother, Emma Stahlacker; sister Ruby Harris; and brother Roland Palmer.
Garnet married her husband Dale in June 1961, at McChord Air Force Base, Washington, and spent the next 12 years alongside Dale as a loving and devoted military spouse until they retired from the Air Force in February 1973 and settled in Tucson.
In her younger years, she taught Kindergarten through 12th grade students in a one-room schoolhouse in the small village of Lynch, Nebraska. Garnet and Dale, together, were long-term and emergency care foster parents for 21 children over a 10-plus year period. She also opened her home and served as a surrogate mom for several other teens that for various reasons had no homes to go to. Garnet excelled the most when helping others in need, and always had a special place in her heart for children and teens that needed help and a hug. While raising her children and foster children she held a variety of different roles within the Tucson Mountain Little League executive board and was often found sitting directly behind home plate serving as an official scorekeeper. Garnet was a devout Christian and her faith was rock-solid, believing strongly in Jesus Christ as her personal savior. She loved a variety of different sports and was an avid University of Arizona Wildcat’s basketball fan.
A memorial service for Garnet is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Tucson Mountain Baptist Church. Flowers and condolences can be sent to Tucson Mountain Baptist Church, 5757 West Ajo Way, Tucson, Arizona, 85735.
