

George B. Greene, 81, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Peppi’s House in Tucson, Arizona. Born in Augusta, Georgia to Sol and Olive Greene, he grew up with 13 siblings and spent most of his life in Tucson, Arizona.
As a young man, George served in the Marine Corps and was stationed in the Panama Canal. In the mid 1950’s, he came to Tucson, Arizona and worked at Hughes Aircraft. He then became an Arizona Ranger and worked in search and rescue. Around 1958, he became a Deputy Sheriff with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department where he served for about 18 years. During this time, he also worked as a bodyguard for celebrities at Old Tucson Studios including Maureen O’Hara and Paul Newman. In 1974, George retired from the Sheriff’s Office and opened up World of Coin Exchange in Downtown Tucson. He enjoyed travelling to different coin shows in the southwest. He owned and ran the coin store for 10 years before retiring.
In his retirement, George was highly involved in Christian Awareness Fellowship and the Gospel Rescue Mission where he would give the message on the first Saturday of every month for many years. He also enjoyed showing off his magic tricks to the Arizona Children’s Home and other schools around Tucson.
George is survived by his wife Virginia of 43 years, daughter Caroline, son Stephen and grandson Adam Duarte. George is also survived by his sisters Mary, Olive, Joann, and brothers Fred, Billy, Paul, Charles, and David.
There will be a memorial service for family and friends on Friday, July 19, 2013 at 11:00am at Calvary Chapel East on 8711 E. Speedway Blvd.
