Born Oct 28, 1918 in Milburn, OK. She raised on a farm by parents Edward and Laura, with brothers Ostelle (Hazel), Tommy (Viola), Bill, Everett (Carmella), and Ralph. Georgia attended a small school where she excelled scholastically, graduating 2 years early. While in high school, she played on the girl’s basketball team.
She moved to Tucson in 1937 where she and Martin first saw each other at First Southern Baptist Church on Speedway, she was singing in the choir and he much admired her legs. They were later introduced to each other at a party, and each went home and told family “I have met my future wife/husband.” Over the years, they each have said “I am blessed to have found the love of my life”.
They were married in Phoenix, January 14, 1939. After living a short time in California, they moved to Salina, KS to attend Midwest (now Calvary) Bible College. After learning Spanish in Nogales, Sonora they served the Lord for many years in Chihuahua, Mexico where today 9 churches and many friends remain. Martin and Georgia had a true calling to work in Mexico. They so enjoyed the many different activities including Daily Vacation Bible School, summer camp, Short-term Bible School, among others.
Some of the stories of the early days in Mexico include wild horse stampedes, floods, tire blowouts, vehicles breaking down in the middle of nowhere, vehicles and the travel trailer destroyed in accidents, traveling over roads that were more ruts after the rains to towns without running water or electricity. Blessedly, God made Georgia adventurous at heart, she said she would have enjoyed parasailing and skate boarding had she been younger.
Some of Georgia’s favorite pastimes included receiving letters, visiting with family and friends, eating tacos, fresh mango & pineapple, listening to songs of praise, the sermons of Billy Graham, Robert Furrow, and others, watching Wildcat basketball and football games, Wheel of Fortune, and laughing.
Georgia really loved reading the Bible and had many favorite passages, including John 14:6, “Jesus says unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me,” Eph 4:32, “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you,” John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life,” and John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
After 62 years of marriage, Georgia was preceded in death by Martin. Also preceding her in death, son Jerry, daughter and son-in-law Linda and Dick. Survived by daughters Ann (Jerry), Mary Ann, Priscilla, Becky, grandchildren Dick, Jim, Sean, Beth, Tim, John (Earlene), Paul (Heather), Stephanie (Tim), Nathan, great-grandchildren Amanda, Matthew, Zachary, Brandon, Gibson, Philip, Ashley, Celest, Emily, Grant, Halie, Paul Jr, Tyler, great-great-grandsons Kaedyn, Jaecyn, Lyndon, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her extended “Chihuahua family”.
Georgia enjoyed good health and her vigorous life until she suffered the first of three strokes in 2006.
Many thanks to those who helped and brought joy and comfort to Georgia--Dan for his care of her home, Rose, Ted & Dean, Rick & Judy, and many others for their faithful support and correspondence, her PCP Gregory Stevenson, Serenity Hospice nurses Vickie, Deeadra, Don.
