

Holly W. Callahan Born February 10, 1925 in Abilene, Kansas. Passed on January 31, 2013 at the age of 87. Holly graduated high school in Abilene, Kansas and then served his country in the US Army with the Big Red One. After he was honorably discharged, he attended Kansas State University. He worked for the Federal Government in Kansas and in the Communication Field for 31 years and retired at Fort Huachuca, AZ. He was initiated into the Masonic Bodies in 1954 in Abilene, Kansas. In 1971 he was initiated into the Scottish Rite Masonic Bodies in Tucson. He was a life member of the Sabbar Shrine Temple. He served in the Clown Unit and was a member of the Directors Staff and a member of the Sabbar Concert and Dance Band. Holly was elected to the office of Temple Recorder and remained in this office until 1990; resigning as Recorder Emeritus. He will be remembered for his love for swing music. He played in the Abilene, KS City Band, the Jack Calvin Orchestra, Vaughn Bolton Band and in the 1960's formed his own band "The Blue Notes" where he performed in local establishments in Tucson, Sierra Vista and Bisbee. He played Saxophone, sang and on occasion played the drums. In the ensuing years, he and his wife, Gene spent many summers at their apartment in Rexburg, Idaho playing golf and traveling through all the Northwest states and sea shores. He had visited every state in the US except Alaska. In his earlier years he loved to hunt and fish. He was predeceased by his son, Larry Callahan and his grandson, Mark Robertson. He is survived by his loving wife, Gene; his daughter, Linda Hoffman (Edwin) of Salina, KS; daughter, Dianne Robertson (Don) of Sierra Vista, AZ; grandsons, Raul Hoffman Shawnee, KS, Tony Hoffman (Elizabeth) Bashor, KS and Jeff Robertson Tucson, AZ and one great-granddaughter, Abigail Hoffman Basehor, KS. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2013 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to Shriners Crippled Children's Fund, c/o Sabbar Shriners Transportation Fund, 450 S. Tucson Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85716.
