Our Mother, Nana, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Tia, Cousin, and Friend left her last mark on this world as she passed away peacefully on November 5, 2017. A native Tucsonan, Jessie was born June 23, 1921 to Jesus and Catalina Flores Ramos. She completed Business College right after graduating from Tucson High School. At the age of fifty two, she went back to school becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. For many years she was a scrub nurse in delivery room at St. Mary’s Hospital. In 1963 she was recruited by Dr. Edmundo Felix to be his office nurse; she worked for him 20 years until he retired. After Dr. Felix’s retirement she went to work for University Medical Center in the Neuro/Surgical ICU. In 1989 she retired from University Medical Center. At the age of seventy-nine, she became bored and applied at the newly remodeled Dillard’s at Park Mall. She was hired on the spot. She mastered using the computerized register, oversold her quota, and met many new friends. After a year, she needed back surgery and the surgical procedure ended her employment. Although she did stop traditional employment, her job was never done! She spent time taking care of her great grandchildren. She had a great interest in politics. She volunteered many hours of her time for Senator Dennis DeConcini, Governor Raul Castro, State Representative Bernardo Cajero, and other politicians, whom she remained close friends with. Jessie also volunteered helping prepare taxes, translating, and helping anyone in need.
Jessie was a great seamstress and enjoyed making baby quilts as gifts. She had the gift to gab and never met a stranger. She was very proud of us being our biggest fan and cheerleader for all of our accomplishments. She loved attending the basketball, football, and volleyball games the great grandchildren played. She was a social butterfly and enjoyed being in the midst of a party, or talking to someone that would listen to her many stories. She was very proud of her Hispanic heritage being “Mexican” and she let everyone know it! She had a streak of stubbornness and believed she was always “right”. She always wondered why she was still here when so many friends and family had died so young. There was always the reminder “Our Lord is NOT ready for Jessie yet!” There is still so much more to be said of her life that time does not allow.
Jessie is predeceased by her parents Jesus and Catalina, Sister, Margaret Apostolos, Brothers, Raul, Jesus (Tuty), and Joe Ramos. Sons, Michael J. Hager and Ralph E. Corral, Great Granddaughters, Alexis and Deseray Hager, Great Grandson, Asauntay “Ajay” Gaxiola. Husbands, Manuel R. Flores, killed in action during WWII 1944, Carl E. Hager that died in an accident in 1949 when she was seven months pregnant with her daughter Carla, and Edgar R. Corral 1970. She is survived by her beloved family, daughter, Carla Hager Diers, step daughter, Dr. Nadine Romney (Gordon), granddaughters, Larissa Gaxiola (Mark), Jessica Markley (Matt Munger), grandsons, Mikey and Joshua Hager and her daughter in law Sherry Hager, great grandchildren, Gabriel and Anthony Gaxiola, Danika and Kaleb Markley, and many beloved, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and dear friends.
