There are people who make you feel, just by knowing them, that everything is going to be alright. Josiah Smith was that person. He carried a heart of gold through every chapter of his life, never passing up an opportunity to help someone in need, whether a neighbor, a stranger, family or friend. To know Josiah was to know what it meant to be truly cared for.
He loved unconditionally, without reservation. His love was steady and sure; the kind that does not waver, does not keep score, and does not ask for anything in return. He showed those around him what true love looks like, not just in words, but with every act of his daily life. His two children and four beloved granddaughters were among the greatest joys of his life, and he cherished every moment he spent with all of them.
Josiah had a deep affection for animals and a special place in his heart for his cat, Pickles, who was a great joy of his. He found peace and wonder in the simple things in life. The sound of rain falling gently outside, the feeling of fresh air on his face on our many adventures together, the quiet beauty of any ordinary day. In those moments, that was when he was entirely himself.
His absence will leave immense emptiness felt by all of the many family members and friends whose lives he touched. He was a man who made people feel truly seen, deeply loved, and all around better for having known him. The world is quieter without him, but fuller for all of the amazing memories he left behind.
Whenever a bird crosses your path, pause for a moment. That is him, saying I am still here, and I still love you.
Until we meet again — you are loved beyond measure, missed beyond words, and held forever in our hearts.
— With all my love, forever and always, Doreen Smith
